American Idol's Top 12 Revealed, Rolling Stones Theme Announced for Next Week

The top 12 American Idol contestants were revealed Thursday night, which means four contestants got cut from competition.

Katelyn Epperly was the first contestant sent home following a lackluster performance of Carole King's "I Feel the Earth Move." Early favorite Toderick Hall also got the boot, and he went out singing Queen's "Somebody to Love," which he performed Wednesday night. Alex Lambert was the last guy eliminated, and he seemed especially sad during his final performance of Ray Lamontagne's "Trouble." Lilly Scott had one of the most unique styles of any contestants this season, so it was surprising that her performance of Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces" got her cut from the show this week.

Here are the contestants who did make the top 12:

Didi Benami
Siobhan Magnue
Paige Miles
Casey James
Tim Urban
Lee Dewyze
Crystal Bowersox
Michael Lynche
Lacey Brown
Aaron Kelly
Andrew Garcia
Katie Stevens

The top 16 contestants opened the show with a group performance of Michael Buble's "Haven't Met You Yet." Season eight finalists Scott Macyintrye and Matt Giraud later returned to the show to perform a duet of Billy Joel's "Tell Her About It" while sitting at facing pianos. Scott also promoted his new album Heartstrings, which is now out on iTunes. Matt's also got a new EP in the works.

The top 12 will perform the songs of The Rolling Stones on next Tuesday night's two-hour installment of American Idol, which airs at 8:00 ET and will also feature a brand-new stage. You can go to iTunes right now to check out the Stones songs from which the contestants are choosing for next week's show.
